Basic/Clinical Science Session
Modern Insights into the Pathogenesis of Kidney Stone Disease
October 24, 2024 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Location: Room 7, Convention Center
Session Description
Nephrolithiasis has been a human affliction dating back thousands of years, and its causes are poorly understood. Advances in recent decades have clarified some of the mechanisms leading to stone formation, but modern scientific techniques are shedding a new light on the pathogenesis of kidney stone disease. This session provides updates on recent findings using contemporary genetic and genomic approaches.
Learning Objective(s)
- Define the role of claudins in paracellular transport affecting stone formation
- Explain the critical role of inflammation in the pathogenesis of stone disease
- Analyze the contribution of the microbiome to kidney stone formation
- Describe the complexity of the genetic underpinnings of kidney stone disease
Learning Pathway(s)
- Bones‚ Stones‚ and Mineral Metabolism
- Genetic Diseases and Development
