Translational Session
Challenges in the Management of Pediatric Glomerular Diseases
October 24, 2024 | 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
Location: Room 33, Convention Center
Session Description
Many glomerular diseases are rare in children or have unique presentations distinct from those in adults. This often leads to barriers for developing evidence-based management approaches. This session provides updates on studies of underlying disease mechanisms and how these are translating into new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
Learning Objective(s)
- Explain the role of complement activation in typical vs. atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome and implications for treatment
- Describe the mechanisms contributing to IgA vasculitis and explain how this shapes treatment approaches
- Discuss kidney outcomes in children with ANCA-associated vasculitis and the utility of urinary and other biomarkers in the management of these patients
- Summarize treatment outcomes, various ongoing trials, and new treatment options in steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome in children
Learning Pathway(s)
- Pediatric Nephrology
- Glomerular Diseases
