Clinical Practice Session
Sickle Cell Disease and the Kidneys: Emerging Concepts and Gene Therapies
October 25, 2024 | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Location: Ballroom 20D, Convention Center
Session Description
Sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait are both associated with adverse kidney outcomes. This session discusses sickle cell nephropathy, emerging concepts related to sickle cell trait-associated CKD, novel gene therapies aimed at curing sickle cell disease, real-world challenges, and future directions.
Learning Objective(s)
- Describe mechanisms that lead to sickle cell nephropathy and how to prevent and manage it
- Explain associations between sickle cell trait and CKD
- Evaluate evidence regarding gene therapies for sickle cell disease
- Summarize future directions in sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait
Learning Pathway(s)
- CKD Non-Dialysis
- Genetic Diseases and Development
