The American Society of Nephrology (ASN) has partnered with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to protect dialysis patients from developing infections, the second leading cause of death in this patient population. The 3-year, $2.2 million dollar effort is aimed at engaging the kidney community, health departments, nephrologists, and other stakeholders to implement best practices to safeguard against infection in dialysis patients.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN), a time to reflect on the the evolution of nephrology and the role ASN has played. ASN was founded in 1966 on the vision that together, nephrology professionals can improve the lives of the millions of individuals worldwide affected by kidney diseases. Beginning with a group of 18 physicians, ASN has expanded to include nearly 16,000 nephrologists and other kidney health professionals in more than 110 countries.
