NIH Training Opportunities for Pre-doctoral Students and Post-doctoral Fellows
- Individual (F30): Designed to support individuals in dual degree, usually MD/PhD, programs during their PhD research experienc.
- Individual(F31): Designed to provide support for pre-doctoral students from under-represented minority groups performing research relevant to NIDDK's mission.
- Individual (F32): These awards provide support for fellows who have received their M.D., Ph.D., or other doctoral-level degree. Fellows need to identify a sponsor and plan a research project before applying for 1 to 3 years of funding.
- Institutional (T32): n place at many major universities, these grants provide pre- and postdoctoral support to fellows at those institutions. To be appointed to a training grant, contact the director of the training program at your institution. For a list of NIDDK-supported programs, click here.
- Institutional (T35): These grants are awarded to research institutions to support short-term, typically summer, research experiences for pre-doctoral or post-doctoral students. NIDDK programs support summer experience for medical and other health professional students.
ASN Research Fellowships
Ben J. Lipps Research Fellowship Program
The goal of the Ben J. Lipps Research Fellowship Program is to fund nephrology fellows to conduct original, meritorious research projects. This program will foster the training of fellows, under the direction of a sponsor, who are highly motivated to make contributions to the understanding of kidney biology and disease.

ASN Pre-Doctoral Fellowship Award Program
The goal of the ASN Pre-Doctoral Fellowship Award Program is to fund PhD students to conduct original, meritorious research projects. This program will foster early career-stage PhD students, under the direction of a sponsor, who are highly motivated to make contributions to the understanding of kidney biology and disease.

ASN Travel Support
STARS
Want to know what it's like to attend a major scientific conference? Interested in learning more about careers in Nephrology? Want to explore a new city? Check out the ASN Kidney STARS Program!
The Kidney STARS program offers medical students, graduate students, residents, and PhD postdoctoral fellows within the first two years of training with an interest in nephrology the chance to attend Kidney Week! In addition to tailored events and networking opportunities, this program provides $1,000 in travel support, complimentary registration to attend the ASN Annual Meeting at Kidney Week, and complimentary membership to the society.

TREKS
The ASN Kidney TREKS (Tutored Research and Education for Kidney Scholars) Program offers medical students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows within their first year of training the opportunity to attend a week long research course at either the University of Chicago or the Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory. It also includes a long-term mentorship match at their home institution. Learn more about the program here.
ASN Advances in Research Conference Early Program Travel Support
Travel award recipients receive $1000 in travel support and complimentary registration to the Advances in Research Conference at ASN Kidney Week. Omics, Organoids and Organs-on-a-Chip: Innovation through Collaboration, will be held October 23-October 24, 2018. NIH Loan Forgiveness
The NIH Loan Repayment Programs (LRPs) are a set of programs established by Congress and designed to recruit and retain highly qualified health professionals into biomedical or biobehavioral research careers. The LRPs counteract that financial pressure by repaying up to $35,000 annually of a researcher's qualified educational debt in return for a commitment to engage in NIH mission-relevant research. Kidney TREKS
Kidney TREKS (Tutored Research and Education for Kidney Scholars), an initiative established by the American Society of Nephrology (ASN), is designed to foster interest in careers in nephrology and research through a week-long research course retreat and long-term mentorship program.There are two program sites: Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory and the University of Chicago.
