Opportunities for Therapeutics Targeting the Glomerular Filtration Barrier

October 26, 2024 | 04:30 PM - 06:00 PM

Location: Room 6A, Convention Center

Session Description

The preeminent role of podocytes in maintaining the glomerular filtration barrier was confirmed in 1998 with the discovery of a filtration barrier gene, restricted to podocytes. We have new insights regarding communication between the cells forming the glomerular filtration barrier from two decades of research into genetics and genomics, structure-function experiments, and patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells and organoids. This session explores the current state of research developments focused on maintenance of the glomerular filtration barrier integrity and emerging questions.

Learning Objective(s)

  • Summarize the complexity and interdependence of cells in the glomerular filtration barrier
  • Describe the most recent advances in glomerular bioengineering technologies
  • Discuss evolving precision medicine approaches for target discovery

Learning Pathway(s)

  • Glomerular Diseases
