Clinical Practice Session
Malignancy and Kidney Transplantation: Evolving Toward Personalized Care
October 24, 2024 | 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Location: Ballroom 20C, Convention Center
Session Description
Cancer often affects kidney transplant candidacy and is a major cause of morbidity and mortality following transplant. Fortunately, advances in disease management have created greater opportunity for transplant for many candidates and greater opportunity for successful treatment while preserving kidney function. This session explores novel perspectives regarding transplant candidacy in the setting of prior or preexisting malignancy and reviews treatment options in the transplant recipient, focusing on hematologic and advanced malignancies.
Learning Objective(s)
- Discuss the incidence of and risk factors for malignancy in the CKD and transplant population and the effects of malignancy on transplant candidacy
- Summarize updated disease-free waiting time recommendations before transplant for skin and solid-organ malignancies
- Identify pathways to transplant in the setting of indolent and advanced hematologic malignancy
- Describe the role of immunosuppression and immunomodulatory therapy for advanced cancer following transplant
Learning Pathway(s)
- Kidney Transplantation
- Onconephrology
