Clinical Practice Session
Viral Infections and Kidney Transplantation
October 24, 2024 | 04:30 PM - 06:00 PM
Location: Ballroom 20C, Convention Center
Session Description
Viral infections following kidney transplant continue to affect morbidity and graft survival. Viral reactivation is often considered a key indicator of immunosuppressed status and is used as a gauge of overall immunosuppression. This session explores novel clinical management strategies and therapies for important viruses and the potential of viral monitoring as a biomarker to guide immunosuppression.
Learning Objective(s)
- Describe updated BK virus monitoring, management recommendations, and novel therapies in the pipeline
- Compare and contrast novel cytomegalovirus treatment options and monitoring strategies
- Discuss the evolving effect of COVID-19 in management of kidney transplant donors, candidates, and recipients
- Summarize the utility of monitoring Epstein-Barr virus and torque teno virus as predictive biomarkers
