Raymond R. Townsend, MD, BRCU Faculty

Raymond R. Townsend, MD, is a graduate of LaSalle College and Hanemann University, completed his residency at Allegheny General Hospital, and a nephrology fellowship at Temple University Hospital. He is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Townsend serves on the Editorial Boards for the Journal of Clinical Hypertension and Artery Research and Pulse. In 2001, he received the Outstanding Lecturer Award from the Medical Student Class of 2002, and the Russell T. Elkinton Teaching award from Renal Fellows. In 2016 he was named the American Heart Association Physician of the Year. He served on the JNC 8 Hypertension Guidelines (US) and also serves with Hypertension Canada on the Canadian Hypertension Guidelines. His research includes hypertension, arterial stiffness and pharmacology.
