Gilbert W. Moeckel, MD, PhD, FASN, BRCU Faculty

Gilbert W. Moeckel, MD, PhD, FASN, is an Associate Professor and the Director of Renal Pathology and Electron Microscopy at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. He graduated magna cum laude from Ludwig Maximillian University in Munich, Germany. Dr. Moeckel trained in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
Dr. Moeckel’s academic interests include clinical renal pathology and research of mechanisms of kidney injury repair and progression of chronic kidney disease. He is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology and a Diplomat of the American Board of Pathology. Dr. Moeckel has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals and has received private industry and federal grants to support his research.
Additionally, Dr. Moeckel is the recipient of various awards, such as the American Society for Clinical Investigation’s Trainee Investigator Award (1995), the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists' Paul E. Strandjord Young Investigator Award (2000), and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine’s Physician-Scientist Development Award (2001).
