Urge your Member of Congress to Cosponsor and Pass the Honor Our Living Donors Act H.R. 6020

Thank you for your advocacy on behalf of the more than 37 million Americans living with kidney diseases. The United States performed a record number of kidney transplants in 2022, totaling more than 25,000 and yet 90,000 adults and 1,100 children are on the kidney transplant waitlist. Most kidney transplants are performed using deceased donor kidneys (20,000 transplants in 2022), while the number of living donor transplants is stagnant, averaging around 6,000 transplants per year. To increase the number of living donors and provide a life-saving gift for those on the kidney transplant waitlist, structural barriers that discourage potential living donors must be reduced.

Living donors often incur thousands of dollars in expenses (or out-of-pocket costs) when donating due to travel, lodging, lost wages, and other nonmedical expenses. The Honor Our Living Donors Act will help support living donors by ensuring the National Living Donor Assistance Center will consider only the donor's income when evaluating whether the donor qualifies for financial assistance.

As a kidney health professional, your members of Congress need to hear from you about why supporting living donors is important to improve the care of the 37 million Americans living with kidney diseases.

Urge your members of Congress to take action to:

  • Cosponsor and Pass the Honor Our Living Donors Act H.R. 6020

Your advocacy and support will ensure these asks receive the attention they deserve and is essential to continue to improve the care of people with kidney diseases.

Please fill out the form below to send a pre-populated letter to your member of Congress urging them to take action to improve kidney health.
