Description
Research on kidney diseases is being transformed by the rapid expansion and innovations in omics technologies. Analysis, integration, and interpretation of large scale data, however, impedes the growing interest in applying these technologies. Targeting this urgent need, the University of Michigan George O’Brien Kidney National Research Core (MKTC) provides services centered on enabling incorporation of systems biology approaches to address research priorities of basic and translational investigators performing kidney-related research across the United States. The center supports system biology approaches, molecular investigations, and data analysis and integration through four cores. The Applied Systems Biology Core (ASBC) provides interactive shared data mining services, including initial study design, analysis of single cell and spatial omic data, analysis of model systems, quantitative morphometric analyses and multi-scalar data integration. The Data Analytic Services Core (DASC) curates different types of data from various kidney disease cohorts and disease model systems, and provides access to online analytical tools, including Nephroseq, CELLxGENE, VITESSCE amongst others. The Resource Development Core (RDC) supports the kidney research community at large by developing a unified platform and methods that integrate multidimensional data, cohort selection and clinical trial design, and supports biomarker selection and validation, and cohort development. The Administrative Core oversees the functioning of MKTC and facilitates educational and training programs including summer student immersive research. Together these cores provide comprehensive translational research support for novel research into classification and treatment of kidney diseases. All interested academic investigators are invited to make use of these services and to contact us for information and consultation.
