Course Overview
New medications in hepatology are constantly being tested in clinical trials and are now being rapidly approved by the FDA with entry into the American treatment market. At this conference we will be reviewing those new medications that are available, or will soon be available, and discussing their relative values. The results of trials using new drugs to treat chronic viral hepatitis B and C will be reviewed and the clinical use of these drugs will be explained in detail.

New Treatments in Chronic Liver Disease is a comprehensive yet concise program for updating physicians on these and other commonly encountered problems in the treatment of liver diseases.

Educational Objectives
After participating in this course, attendees should be able to:

  • Review our current knowledge of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and explore the use of new agents and approaches to treatment of the condition;
  • Update the algorithm for a therapeutic approach to treatment of HBV using new drugs;
  • Discuss the natural history and treatment of autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis and associated autoimmune liver disorders;
  • Assess extended duration, induction dosing and higher doses of pegylated interferons and ribavirin for difficult-to-treat HCV;
  • Discuss novel therapies for HCV including novel interferons, immunomodulators, and STAT-C protease and polymerase inhibitors;
  • Update the etiology, prognosis, and management of acute liver failure;
  • Review current options for therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma and determine the best approach for your patients;
  • Update your knowledge on drug hepatotoxicity; and,
  • Explore controversies in the treatment of NASH, difficult-to-treat hepatitis C and acute liver failure.
